FREQUENT QUESTIONS
Why is fasting important before my child surgery?
When having a child anesthetized with their stomach with food content, there is a possibility that the content will flow back into the airway, that is, they will breathe in vomit. The risk of this is an aspiration pneumonia, which is very serious and requires management in a pediatric ICU.
The fast that children require is different for each age and depends on the type of food eaten last. For this reason, it is very important to follow the instructions of the surgeon and / or anesthetist instruction so that the fast is appropriate according to the case.
