CLEFT LIP

FISURA LABIO UNILATERAL. TÉCNICA DE FISHER

Fisher's technique for unilateral cleft lip

Unilateral Cleft Lip

Repair of the unilateral cleft lip includes repair of various segments of the mouth and nose. It is generally done between 3-6 months of age.

1.- Primary cheiloplasty: in   lip reconstruction of the lip muscle (orbicularis muscle), lip mucosa, vermillion and cupid's arch is performed.

2.- Rhinoplasty: in relation to the nose, the nasal floor is closed and the cartilage of the nose is repositioned to improve symmetry.

3.- Gingivoperiostoplasty: in some patients the gingiva (rim where the teeth will come out) can be repaired. This when the gingiva is very close to each other. Pre-surgical orthopedics, performed by the orthodontic team, helps the gingiva to be closer.

Bilateral Cleft Lip

The repair of the bilateral cleft lip includes the repair of various segments of the mouth and nose. It is generally done between 3-6 months of age.

1.- Primary cheiloplasty:  the reconstruction include the lip muscle (orbicularis muscle), vestibular mucosa of the lip, vermillion and cupid's arch. The filter column is reconstructed from the skin of the premaxilla and the vermilion and white line from the lateral segments of the lip

2.- Rhinoplasty: in relation to the nose, the nasal floor is closed and the cartilage of the nose is repositioned to improve symmetry and the reposition of the nasal cartilage elongated the columella.

3.- Gingivoperiostoplasty: in some patients the gingiva (rim where the teeth will come out) can be repaired. This when the gingiva is very close to each other. Pre-surgical orthopedics, performed by the orthodontic team, helps the gingiva to be closer and better position the premaxilla.
